Measuring Guide For Men's Dress Shirt

How To Measure Collar Circumference On A Dress Shirt

Measure around your shirt collar top edge where the stand and top collar breaks and folds down and make sure your shirt collar measures your neck circumference measurement.

Pro Advise: Add an extra 1/2" to your total neck circumference so your shirt collars rest comfortably on your neck.

Example: Your neck circumference measures 16" Add an extra 1/2 inch and your new neck circumference should be 16 1/2".

Another reason why I say to add 1/2 inch is that most men dress shirts run neck sizes in increments of half of an inch, therefore, it makes sense to get a size 16 1/2.

How To Measure Chest Circumference On A Dress Shirt

Step 1). Button up and place your shirt flat on a table.

Step 2). Place a mark about 1" down from where the armhole is and measure your shirt chest circumference.

Example" Your shirt flat chest measurement is 20" multiply this number by 2 to get total shirt chest circumference.

Step 3). Wrap the tape measure around the widest part of your chest and back. Approximately about 1" under your arms. Keep the tape measure parallel to the ground. Also, take a breath in so the measurement is not constricting.

Pro Advise: Add a couple of inches extra to your body chest circumference according to how much extra room you want to have for ease and to avoid arm movement restriction due to a tie fit.

Example: Your chest measurement is 40" adding 4" extra would give you a total of 44" chest circumference. 44 inches is how big your dress shirt chest measurement should be before buying your favorite dress shirt.

How To Measure Waist On A Dress Shirt

How To Measure True Sleeve Lenght On A Dress Shirt

Step 2). Next, lay shirt facing down so back side of your shirt is in front of you as the diagram above.

Step 3). place measuring tape at CB.(Center Back) and to the end of shoulder line at the top of your arm

Step 4). Continue measuring from shoulder line down to where your sleeve cuff finishes see diagram above.

Pro Advise 1). To find CB. of your neck on your body put your hand in the back of your neck and feel the bone at your spine, use this as a reference to start measuring your sleeve length.

Continue measuring to the end of your shoulder at the top of your arm and down on your arm to just past your wrist bone to where you would like your shirt cuff to sit.

Pro Advise 2). slightly bend the elbow when measuring to allow for extra ease. If you do not do this your sleeve length will be short because the natural position of your arm is slightly bent.
